Provo Local Music: No Such Animal Band Review
Provo has one of the best local music scenes in the country. The best place to see this is the music venue on Center Street called Velour. It has been the home of many great bands such as Moth and the Flame, Neon Trees, and Imagine Dragons. As you walk in you can feel the combined passions and varied visions of the bands who have played their.
One new and up coming band is the band No Such Animal. They are an alt-rock band with a fresh sound. I have seen them at Velour for multiple concerts. Recently they released a new album called The Entertainer. It is a cohesive album with a grand vision and great lyrics to guide it. I would highly recommend listening to it. The Entertainer feels like the results of a big producer, but still grounds you in the feeling of college life.
I have loved diving into local music. It is a form of media that connects you to the community and helps you see others a little clearer. The music you can find also just sounds great.
Connor, this is so enlightening! I often don't worry much about connecting to music in the community especially if it is different than the music I listen to. Although, your ability to find the positives in local music really helps connect you with others in the community. This is so beneficial for so many reasons--especially if you are trying to make new friends, the world a better place, or simply just connect. I think this can truly help with a belonging at BYU and in Provo.
ReplyDeleteThanks Domanique for that!
DeleteThis is a really cool idea to review different bands! I also love local music. If you are interested in the Velour a band called Book on Tape Worm performs there every once in a while and they have really cool intimate concerts.
ReplyDeleteWait! You know Book on Tape Worm too?! I've only seen them once but they sounded awesome when I did. I know what you mean by intimate, they did have an intimate feel about them.
DeleteI've also heard about Velour. Everyone that has been there just absolutely loves it! I had a friend that I worked with at FSY who has played a few times at Velour. I think No Such Animal sounds like a cool band! I will have to check them out sometime.
ReplyDeleteI love the Velour! "Local music" isn't really my thing but I am lucky to have friends who are heavily invested in the Provo music scene. It's fun to get outside of the typical BYU culture and get invested in up and coming artists. I've also been to the Rise a couple times (on Center Street) and had some fun experiences there! If you liked the Velour and are looking to branch out, I'd recommend it!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried the Rise yet! I should try that out some time. Thanks for the suggestion.
DeleteMusic impacts people in multitudes of way. It was really neat the way you connected to how local music can connect you to the community. It is wonderful when music has deep meaning to the lyrics and shows a great avenue into creativity.
